Understanding the SharePoint system link

The SharePoint system link connects the Publisher to an existing SharePoint farm. When configured as a destination system, documents are published to a specified folder in a document library. If the document already exists in the library, it is checked out by the Publisher, the document is updated, Publisher checks the document back in, and increments the major revision number. The link can also replicate the source folder structure in the library. When configured as a source system, the document library can be selected.

This link is ideal for organizations that use SharePoint to make documents available to external organizations or to remote sites and those that need to import documents from a project owner's SharePoint portal.

Note    SharePoint Online is only supported as a destination system and then only using claims-based authentication, not Active Directory authentication.
